PATRICK MALIHA
Let's
welcome back Patrick Maliha as our continuing Comedic Mentor for
Comedy Courage 2007. Patrick put his wonderful talent to good use
with ease being the 2006 Comedic Mentor. He nurtured and help our
3rd generation of Courageous Comics develop their hidden talents.
This years line up with the guidance from Patrick promises to be a
really big and fun packed night of "Laughing and Giving from the Heart"
After
Patrick Maliha developed his writing skills while obtaining his B.A. in
English from the University of Ottawa, he moved to Vancouver. Since then
he has become a voting member of the Vancouver Film Critics Circle and
can be seen every Thursday on the television show URBAN RUSH as one half
of "The Movie Guys". A professional Stand-up comedian, Patrick has
headlined and MC'ed various shows at the Vancouver International Comedy
Festival in addition to a multitude of comedy clubs through out Canada
and the U.S. He has appeared in numerous productions for the Vancouver
Film School and was the subject of an Award Winning documentary
entitled: "Truth of Today: Volatile Rhetoric".
A talented impressionist, Patrick placed in the top three during the
2003 Seattle International Comedy Competition (one of the highest
placings ever by a Canadian). Patrick Maliha has also appeared in
national commercials and was the host for the pilot episode of the
television series “Travel Spot”. This past fall Patrick ran for
Vancouver City Council under the NPA banner. Although he did not get
elected, he received close to 40,000 votes and a wealth of experience
and knowledge regarding the needs of the City of Vancouver and its'
citizens.
Patrick believes it is important to give back to those in his community
by mentoring other artists and by donating his time and talents. He is
committed to many charity organizations and donates his Stand-Up skills
to charities such as St. Augustine's Brick by Brick Campaign. Patrick
feels especially privileged to work with the mental health community
through “Comedy Courage”, an organization dedicated to improving the
lives of people dealing with mental health issues.
