Let's welcome back Patrick Maliha teaming up with Dawn Chubai from City TV as our Grand EMCEE's for the May 27, 2010 Comedy Courage's "Laughing and Giving from the Heart" Gala Dinner & Showcase. I am honoured to be part of such a great endeavour to mental health wellness. I was the teacher/mentor for Comedy Courage from 2006-2008. This is going to be a very extra special night of laughing and giving from the heart."

2010 TEACHER/MENTOR AND COMEDIC HOST

   All Classes will be taught & mentored by Shay Novack who has garnered a reputation to have been nominated twice as “Best New Female Comic” Metro Vancouver. Novack first started with Comedy Courage in 2006 as a student and rose high on the circuit with her mental health act.
   Novack says, “The course changed my outlook and lease on life, I no longer dwell on my many diagnoses but surprise audiences with my many mental health issues in my act.
   I'm thrilled and incredibly honoured to be the 2010 Comedy Courage Comedic Mentor & Teacher.
   Laughter is the best healing power for my depression. I chuckle inside and I am going to keep on writing Comedy for our 7th Annual Gala Dinner & Showcase by helping other students learn to turn, ‘Tragedy into Triumph’ like me.”

   We’re so honoured to have Chris Molineux as our Comedic Host for Comedy Courage 2010 and to drop into class to tweak our 2010 courageous comics..
   Chris has worked as a professional stand-up comedian since 1986, & headlined at shows across North America, the U.K. & the Caribbean.
   He worked as a writer for Electronic Arts, done voices on Inspector Gadget and Madeline, performed at “Just for Laughs” and worked with Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Ellen DeGeneres and many others.
   Chris has done coaching in stand-up comedy, public speaking, and communication skills since 2000.
Most recently he coached the Coca Cola Olympic Torch team and provided the voice-over that opened up the 2010 Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies.

Dr. Kerry Jang was elected to Vancouver City Council in 2008 having previously served in a number of volunteer capacities with focuses on meeting the needs of individual neighborhoods on issues such as mental health and homlessness. Kerry is also a professor of psychiatry at UBC.

Watching Comedy Courage grow from its infancy into a Canadian national non-profit and a BC society for the benefit of mental health has been spectacular. Comedy Courage makes mental health approachable to talk about in the workplace and at home.

Comedy Courage is the first program of its kind in Canada to teach people with mental health diagnoses and issues how to write a comedy routine about their own personal journeys to mental health wellness and deliver it before a live audience!

What began as a slow growing dream has turned into “Canada's Largest Comedy Benefit Concert” in support of Mental Health Wellness.

Comedy Courage’s vision is to empower individuals with mental health diagnoses and/or issues to discover their comedic talent and to use this talent to educate, create awareness, break the stigma of what it means to have a mental health diagnosis and to raise funds so we can continue to support people living with mental health diagnoses and/or issues.

Comedy Courage is proud to announce that this year Canada Revenue Agency granted us our own national non-profit status in a record 7 weeks which made Canadian History so we can continue spreading awareness across Canada. Comedy Courage is also registered in British Columbia as a Society.
